How much does that cost? How much is this per jin? What’s your lowest price?
It’s here in Shanghai/China that I started being so price sensitive. Not only because I’m a halfpat, but because I always have that nagging feeling that the sellers are selling the item at various different prices and I just hate being taken advantaged of, betrayed by my accent or ignorance. I refuse to pay “foreigner prices”, and if you’re like me, I hope this site will help you shave that few kuai and walk away knowing you got the best deal. In various posts on this site, you will find information on actual prices paid, and ideas for “livin’ the ‘hai life” without depleting your bank account. I’m Asian by the way, so the prices I pay, I’d like to believe, are local prices.
I also carry a pocket electronic scale on occasions like crabbing out at Tongchuan Lu Seafood Market in case the fishmongers manipulate the scales (yeah I’m that paranoid).
Of course, other than being mao wise, this site also aims to provide useful information for eating, living, working and exploring in Shanghai for young foreigners on a local to local plus package. I’ve been told that travelers and expats have found this site very useful for them too.
