Shanghai Muslim Market

If you’ve got a free couple of hours on a Friday, head to Shanghai Muslim Market for an entirely different China food and smell experience. (And discover that Xinjiang food is not just mutton shaokao! It’s mutton everything!)

Other than Muslim food, you’ll find DVDs in what looks like Arabic, fur coats, and interestingly, numerous beggars.

Every Friday from 11am till early afternoon, the Muslim Market in Northern Jing’an (or is it Putuo district already) caters to Muslims there for prayers at the Huxi Mosque, and curious onlookers alike.

Where: 1328 Changde Lu, near Aomen Lu (常德路1328弄, 近澳门路)

thanks for the recommendation. is this area safe? i am very new here and my colleagues told me to avoid places with a lot of XinJiang people but i actually like their culture and don't think all are bad.

    Hi,

I understand why your colleagues would tell you to avoid places with a lot of Xinjiang people because there has been cases of robbery and other crimes with culprits usually being Xinjiang people. Nevertheless, the Shanghai Muslim Market is alright, but of course, as with everywhere else in Shanghai, it's always better to stay cautious.
